What Dresses? Accessories Stole The Show At The Globes
While there were certainly some memorable dresses at the Golden Globes the other night, the red carpet was won or lost on accessories this year. Stars are learning that it's no longer enough to choose the most beautiful dress, and that wearing the right earrings or carrying the perfect clutch can take their look to a whole new level.Equally important is knowing when NOT to accessorize and allowing a dress to speak for itself. Lupita Nyong'o demonstrated that to perfection by taking all unnecessary distractions away from her Ralph Lauren jaw dropping dress and her simply styled hair. The cape was enough, and in my opinion, she was best dressed, hands down. For everyone else, accessories ruled the day. Here are some of my favorites:1. Best Jewelry:Jennifer Lawrence: She nailed it and for her, I think that accessories made the biggest difference. While I didn't love her dress, by choosing to add the pop of jade in her to die for Neil Lane earrings and ring she achieved a memorable look. Her bracelets also made a statement of their own, especially when one fell off during her interview with Ryan Seacrest. This girl always seems to have a red carpet moment.Runner Up #1: Cate Blanchett: The diamond Chopard earrings just made her Armani Prive black lace gown even more exquisite. Such sophistication!Runner Up #2: Elizabeth Moss. Her sharp- edged triangle shaped Jennifer Meyer yellow gold earrings brought her J Mendel super cool look together.2: Best Hair:Jennifer Lawrence: She has managed to be the girl next door and the most chic star out there today. Well done. I love to reward bravery.Runner Up #1: In her simple, elegant Narcisso Rodriguez red halter dress, I loved Julia Louis-Dreyfus in a ponytail. It made her seem so casually elegant.Runner Up #2: Cate Blanchett's sleek style fit the gown. It also allowed us to see the amazing neckline of her dress and those awesome earrings.3. Best Shoes:Zooey Deschanel's Oscar de la Renta beaded pumps. I know not all were thrilled with her look, but I love her and I love Oscar. The shoes were just so gorgeous and feminine and they paired beautifully with her really vintage styled look.Runner Up #1: Margo Robbie in Christian Louboutin emerald green pumps. They did what shoes should do by making the emerald accents in her cream colored dress come alive to complete a really lovely and dramatic look.Runner Up #2: Caitlin Fitzgerald's, Manolo Blahnik striped pumps. Just so very cool and very cute. I want them.4. Best Clutch:Jennifer Lawrence: With a very feminine billowy kind of dress, she chose a Roger Vivier sharp edged, contemporary black bag. It was perfection.Runner Up #1: Zooey Deschanel carrying a Charlotte Olympia clutch. Rather than changing up the look or trying to make it stand out, she kept it simple and it blended effortlessly with her dress.Runner Up #2: Anna Gun carrying Edie Parker. Besides the fact that it looked great with her Donna Karan Atelier dress, on it's own, it was a stunning bag.5. Best overall accessory:Emma Thompson's martini. It looked fantastic in her hand, goes with anything and is always necessary for every woman at these types of events. It made my night.**Photo copyright laws prohibit me from adding more pictures to a blog post that certainly needed them. If anyone can share a site for free, legal, up to date photos, pls. share!
